In private label cosmetics, sustainability means more than just using natural ingredients.
At Velvety, we take the entire value chain into account from formulation to packaging.
For our solid products, we use plastic-free cardboard packaging.
And for sticks, where plastic is technically necessary, we deliberately use PCR material. This way, we reduce the use of new plastic and conserve valuable resources.
But what does PCR actually mean?
PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled. This means the plastic has already been in circulation it was used, collected, processed, and recycled.
For our private-label sticks, we use high-quality PCR plastic packaging that is modern, reliable, and resource-efficient.
They are made from 100% post-consumer recycled material and have already had a previous life.
Another advantage: Since it is a mono-material, this packaging can be returned to the recycling loop after use.
Why is PCR a smart choice?
PCR is one of the most sensible solutions currently available for sustainable cosmetic packaging — especially in cases where plastic is functionally indispensable.
✔️ Reduced crude oil consumption: PCR does not require new petroleum, conserving fossil resources.
✔️ Lower CO2 emissions: The production of PCR generates significantly less CO2 compared to plastic made from virgin materials.
✔️ Efficient waste utilization: Previously used plastics are collected, processed, and reused instead of ending up in landfills or the environment.
✔️ Stability remains guaranteed: PCR meets the same standards for hygiene, stability, and product protection as new materials.
✔️ Contribution to the circular economy: PCR material can be recycled again after use, supporting the reuse of existing resources.
Aren’t PCR sticks still plastic?
Yes, PCR is still plastic. However, it is recycled material that has already been in circulation.
By using PCR, we reduce the need for virgin plastic, save energy, and lower CO₂ emissions.
And: Plastic is not inherently bad. In cosmetics, it offers important functional benefits such as protection against moisture, light, and germs, as well as ensuring product shelf life.
Especially for sticks used in deodorants, body care, or lip products, plastic is currently the most technically practical and safest packaging solution.
Is recycled plastic really as good as new plastic?
PCR materials have significantly improved in recent years.
Today, modern PCR plastics meet the same standards for durability, product protection, and hygiene as virgin materials.
Visually, there are differences. PCR is often slightly grayish or less transparent than virgin plastic.
Many brands now deliberately embrace this look as a visible sign of their sustainability strategy.
Responsibility that becomes measurable
For us, it’s simple: if plastic, then with purpose.
As a private-label manufacturer with years of experience in cosmetic production, we choose packaging solutions that are both technically effective and environmentally responsible.
That’s why for sticks and hot-fill applications, we deliberately use high-quality PCR material.
This reduces the use of virgin plastic, lowers CO₂ emissions, and supports the circular economy.
Our PCR packaging is functional, hygienically safe, and recyclable again.
Our standard: sustainable solutions without compromising on quality, product protection, or design.
Because responsible action is not shown through promises, but through every single material we choose to use.
